Girl Funds Israel Tour by Playing Hava Nagila

June 11th 2013

When Miranda Robshaw of LJY-Netzer found she could not afford to go on the Liberal youth movement's Israel Tour this summer, she did not give up. Instead, she took up her fiddle and set off for Wanstead High Street where she managed to make over £100 a day by busking.

Miranda, who has been playing the violin since the age of 8, could not help but notice that donations increased when she played Hava Nagila. The rest of her repertoire included baroque classics from Bach and Hayden, amongst others.

Miranda: "My mother went to Israel last year and it changed her life. I heard about LJY-Netzer's Israel Tour and I knew I had to go. I was surprised by how much money I made. Knowing that my violin has paid for me to go to Israel just makes both the tour and my violin all the more precious.”

LJY-Netzer's Israel Tour is for 16-year-olds and runs from 9th July - 2nd August. You do not have to be a member of a Liberal Synagogue to join in the fun.
