Helping to keep London warm

Liberal Jewish communities all across the UK took part in Mitzvah Day, getting involved in projects to support charities and build stronger communities.

The staff team at the Montagu Centre, Liberal Judaism’s head office, helped sort and pack old coats for Hands On London – providing jackets to vulnerable people in the capital during the winter.

The eight-strong LJ team emptied, sorted and bagged approximately 1,400 coats, which had been collected at underground stations the previous week.

They will be sent to homeless people, asylum seekers, vulnerable older people and those escaping domestic violence.

Liberal Judaism chief executive Rabbi Danny Rich said: “I am so proud of all our Liberal communities, who gave their time on Mitzvah Day to help some wonderful causes.

“Packing 1,400 coats was hard work, but very rewarding and I’m so pleased we can help bring some warmth to those who need it most this winter.
